IUS student Ms. Armela Mehdin attends Energy Summit 2022 in Neum, BiH

Faculty of Law student Ms. Armela Mehdin attended the Energy Summit 2022 organized on 26 – 27 March 2022 in Neum, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The summit brought together key domestic, regional, and international actors who discussed much-needed energy sector reform and path of BiH to the clean energy transition.

IUS FLW Public Lecture Series- Dr Magdalena Smieszek

IUS FLW would like to extend gratitude to Dr Magdalena Smieszek who delivered a lecture as part of the IUS FLW Public Lecture Series.

The topic of her lecture was Empathy in Migration Matters: Socio-Economic Rights, Duties, and Relations on the EU Periphery.

Reflecting on the situation of migrants in Bosnia and Herzegovina amid the EU-BiH relations, Magdalena discussed how mental inclinations and social relationships, both within and outside policies, affect the ongoing challenges. The lecture was followed by a lively Q&A session.

Public Lecture by Dr. Sci. David Pettigrew on Transitional Justice and Memoralization of War Cimes in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Dr. Sci. David Pettigrew, professor at the Southern Connecticut State University, will present his research on Transitional Justice and Memoralization of war crimes in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The lecture will emphasis the need for the High Representative to establish protected national memorials at the sites of former concentration camps and will examine how the existing process of memoralization is conducted. This lecture is opened for students of law, social sciences and for wider public.

In observance of the International Restorative Justice Week, Faculty of Law is organizing a public lecture on the topic ''All You Need To Know About Restorative Justice''. After a brief introduction about the concept of Restorative Justice and its principles, speakers will refer to the application of Restorative Justice in Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina and determine its forms and basic challenges. This lecture is open for students of law, but also for other social sciences, as well as for the practitioners and wider public. You are all cordially invited to join.

ERASMUS+ Guest Lecturer

During the week of 29 November to 3 December 2021, Dr. Slawomir Wojciech Fundowicz, Head of Administrative Law Department at Faculty of Law of Jean Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, Poland visited the Faculty of Law of the International University of Sarajevo.

On 1st December 2021, Dr. Slawomir Wojciech Fundowicz appeared as guest lecturer in the General Theory of State course of the FLW. The topic of the Lecture was “Federal States”.

The students had the opportunity to learn about this unique framework and to engage with the lecturer in a Q&A session.

Interview with IUS Student Armela Mehdin, one of the first B&H youth representatives at the COP 26 UN Climate Change Conference

IUS has always been a place that encourages bright, young individuals with aspiring ideas to foster change and make our world a better place. Armela Mehdin, a freshman student at the Faculty of Law, is one of these people. She is one of the first students from B&H that attended the biggest climate change conference in the world, COP (Conference of the Parties) 26 UN Conference held this month in Glasgow, Scotland. IUS proudly brings an interview with our student, where she talks more about her experiences on attending this conference.

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is supporting SEE countries to proactively inform and educate women about their constitutional and legal rights to access, ownership and co-ownership of land and other forms of property. As part of the regional awareness campaign „Empowered women, empowered economy” for South East Europe motivational video is produced to promote economic empowerment of rural women.
