Dean's Message

Faculty of Law

Dear students,

Welcome to IUS Faculty of Law – a vibrant and inspiring environment to study law and prepare for a phenomenal career

The Faculty of Law (FLW) is one of five faculties at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS). It was established in 2015 with the mission of providing legal education to the highest possible standards in line with the Bologna system. It is currently available in the 1st and 2nd study cycles. FLW provides education in an environment aligned with the IUS tradition of being the best private university in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, and a model university for the interweaving of liberal education and fundamental knowledge with practical education and impact on societal and world problems.

FLW distinguishes itself from other faculties of law/legal sciences/law programs in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Balkans and Turkey, primarily by teaching in English. Among 23 faculties of law/legal sciences/law programs in Bosnia and Herzegovina, FLW is one of the two faculties that offer legal education in English language. Among 83 faculties of law in Turkey, there is no faculty providing legal education only in English.

In addition to instructing in English, FLW provides a comparative and critical approach to Legal Studies with its Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Law and Comparative Public Law and Comparative Private Law Master of Arts (MA) programs. FLW has a well-established faculty with expertise in legal theory and practice, in addition to national and international recognition. FLW BA and MA programs offer an interactive education based on one-to-one communication with students in the international and multilingual environment of IUS.

Students are also provided with academic and career advice and guidance throughout their study period. The Summer School of International Arbitration, organized annually in collaboration with the Association ARBITRI, offers a rich and in-depth program by world-class experts to guide participants (students, academics, practicing lawyers, government officials and entrepreneurs) through fundamental principles of the theory and practice of international arbitration, as well as the cutting-edge developments and hot topics.

FLW also offers its students the opportunity to put law into practice via FLW Moot Court. Participation in Moot Court competitions allows students to establish their skills in oral argumentation and the hands-on experience they will need when they enter the work force. FLW has in a short period of time institutionalized and systematized routine presence in local, regional and international Moot Court Competitions with teams consisting of faculty and students. A vibrant FLW continually contributes to academic research with a focus on independent research, with its well-established faculty and students, including its academic publication IUS Law Journal and monthly FLW Public Lectures.

IUS Faculty of Law is looking forward to extending its network with prospect students, academics, practicing lawyers, members of non-governmental institutions, entrepreneurs, etc. Follow us on our website and social media accounts (IUS Faculty of Law Facebook/Instagram/LinkedIn). You are welcome to visit us on the campus in person and allow us to share with you the way we transform our students’ lives during their studying period with us.
