Faculty of Law (FLW IUS) Students Visit Aarhus Centre in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Earth Day

On the occasion of Earth Day, students from the Faculty of Law (FLW) at International University of Sarajevo visited the Aarhus Centre in Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of their academic engagement in environmental law.  The Aarhus Centre in Bosnia and Herzegovina plays a vital role in promoting environmental democracy, ensuring access to information, and supporting public participation in environmental decision-making processes.

The visit was led by Assist. Prof. Dr. Hana Šarkinović-Köse, who guided the students through this educational experience. The participating students are currently enrolled in Environmental law as an elective course, reflecting their strong interest in legal approaches to environmental protection and sustainability.

During the visit, the Executive Director, Emina Veljović LL.M., gave a lecture and engaged students in meaningful discussions on the state of the environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina, challenges in implementing environmental legislation, and the role of institutions in safeguarding environmental rights. The session also emphasized the importance of civic engagement and legal action in protecting nature and the public interest.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Ms. Veljović for her insightful lecture and warm hospitality, which greatly enriched the students’ learning experience.

Marking Earth Day, this visit served as a reminder that environmental protection is not only about preserving nature, but also about advancing human rights, public health, and a sustainable future for all.
