ICTY Legal Expert Lauranne Duffaut lecture at IUS

Lauranne Duffaut, Associate Legal Officer in the ICTY Appeals Chamber, held a lecture titled “ICTY Practice in adjudicating genocide and crimes against humanity” on Thursday, 28th of April at the IUS main amphitheatre.

Lauranne Duffaut holds an LL.M. degree in International and European Law from the University of Amsterdam where she focused on international public law. Prior to that, she obtained her Bachelor in Law from the Belgian “Université Catholique de Louvain”.

Since October 2015, Ms Duffault has been working as an Associate Legal Officer in the ICTY Appeals Chamber on the Prlić et al. case, specifically on the Prosecution’s and Defence teams’ appeals against the Trial Judgement.

Before joining the ICTY, Ms Duffaut was a Consultant with the Prosecution at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Court of Cambodia (ECCC), where the case against former Khmer Rouge leaders included genocide charges. She has also worked with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Human Rights Watch where she contributed to a Human Rights Watch report on crimes committed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Ms Duffaut is from Belgium.
