Hands-On Learning in Public Administration: IUS Law Students Visit Novo Sarajevo Municipality

On Friday, November 28, 2025, first-year students of the IUS Faculty of Law (FLW) visited the Novo Sarajevo Municipality as part of their practical training. During the visit, they were introduced in more detail to the responsibilities and daily operations of the Municipality as a local self-government unit.

Special emphasis was placed on the work of the Civil Registry Office and the Citizens' Service Center, where numerous basic rights of citizens are realized. The students gained insight into the processes of issuing documents, maintaining civil registry records, and the work of clerks at the counters. They also learned about the work of the Municipal Council as a legislative body, its role, and the process of electing leadership and councilors in local elections.

After the theoretical part, they visited the counter hall and practically observed how document certification works, as well as gaining insight into the civil registry books. They also visited the Municipal Council hall, where they learned more about how meetings are held and decisions are made.

The two-hour visit to the Municipality concluded with a visit to the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the students viewed an exhibition by Bosnian-Herzegovinian artist Alena Gojak, supported by the Novo Sarajevo Municipality.

We thank our host for this lecture and wish best in their work.
