Senior Assistant Hana Šarkinović-Köse Attends GIE Annual Meeting in Council of Europe
The Group of Independent Experts (GIE) on the European Charter of Local Self-Government under the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities held its annual meeting in Strasbourg, France, from September 28 to 29, 2023. Ms. Hana Šarkinović-Köse, Senior Assistant at the IUS Faculty of Law, was appointed as a Full member by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe in May 2023 for a 5-year term.
During the meeting, GIE members discussed various topics related to the application of the European Charter of Local Self-Government, including the Manifesto for a new urbanity, European Urban Charter III, Local and Regional Authorities as Guarantors of the Rule of Law, A fundamental right to the environment: a matter for local and regional authorities - Towards a green reading of the European Charter of Local Self-Government, and the Potsdam Declaration for commitment to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.
The GIE brings together experts from each of the 46 member States of the Council of Europe who are competent in the field of law, politics and finance and specialized in issues concerning local and regional democracy. They provide legal assistance to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities as part of its political mission and actively participate in its Monitoring, Current Affairs and Governance Committees.
